Dear Collegewood Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am thrilled to be welcoming your children back to school! While our learning will begin online, our team will continue to reach higher and further through online learning platforms to provide engaging and challenging learning experiences to students. Our continued commitment to fostering resilience, perseverance, grit, empathy, and the ability to communicate effectively in diverse learning partnerships will undoubtedly help our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
We will begin utilizing our newly adopted science textbooks this year. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) encompass Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Our team will continue to embed critical thinking and collaboration across all content areas. We will also continue working diligently to meet the diverse needs of our students through small group instruction across all grade levels. Our students will participate in online learning through Google classroom, virtual field trips and Breakout EDU, which fosters problem-solving and critical thinking.
As recipients of the Platinum Award for Schoolwide Positive Behavior Intervention Support, our deliberate work to instill tools for self-regulation and emotional wellness will carry on through lessons by our teachers, counselor and elementary learning specialist. Practices such as naming emotions, communicating needs, self advocacy, and breathing exercises help our students have ownership over their responses to their emotions.
Collegewood Elementary was named a 2019-20 Golden Bell Award winner because of our tiered layers of academic and emotional supports made to students across all grade levels. We use a team approach to learning the personal narratives of each student in our care while working in partnership with their respective families to determine how best to meet the needs of our students.
One of the greatest characteristics of the Collegewood learning community is the genuine care and compassion shared between staff, students, and parents. Collegewood Elementary is a place where staff and families come together to ensure that the children entrusted into our care grow to be productive, confident, compassionate, members of a global society. I look forward to an amazing year!
